Question: Is the LED strobe self-activating in water?

Answer: Activate it manually. To turn on the strobe, you twist the top one way. To open the strobe to access the battery/light, you turn it the opposite way. During a rescue situation, I was trying to turn the strobe on to help the coast guard spot me and the kayakers I was rescuing. I could only use one hand to turn on the strobe because I was using my other hand to try and keep the other kayaker's boat next to mine. We were in storm conditions with large waves and spray blowing all over us. The strobe was wet and my hands were wet so it was not difficult to twist the strobe on using only one hand.

Question: What are the dimensions of the See-Me LED Light?

Answer: Dimensions: 4.95" long x 1" diameter. Weight: 1.8 oz. / 58g.

Question: Does the flashlight float?

Answer: The See Me 1.0 Compact LED Strobe Light for PFD does not float.

Question: How often should I change the batteries if the unit isn't in use?

Answer: Approximately once a year.

Question: What type of batteries needed and how many?

Answer: The device needs 2 AAA batteries just slide in when you push down and turn the head. I use energizer lithium L92 in mine, alkaline are prone to leakage under hot storage conditions.

Question: Optionally, is this light capable of a steady (vs. strobed) light or only strobe?

Answer: This is a strobe only light, designed for emergency situations.

Question: What color is the strobe? white, yellow, or red?

Answer: The strobe is white, making it easier to see.

Question: Is there a depth rating? Can I scuba dive with it in my BC (buoyancy compensator)?

Answer: You can submerge the light up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Sorry, no, you cannot dive with it.

Question: Is it a United States Coast Guard approved personal locator strobe beacon?

Answer: Yes, simply place the light on a PFD (personal floatation device), to make the wearer more visible in the water in the dark.
